The Diploma in Pre-Health Professions: Dental Hygiene is designed to provide the foundation for transferring to a four-year dental program or other health care field. In this program, biology, anatomy, and chemistry will provide students with a solid foundation for their chosen healthcare career program. This program can be utilized as a bridge to the University of Pittsburgh’s Dental Hygiene Bachelor’s Program however admission into the Bachelor’s Program is at the University of Pittsburgh’s discretion. Graduates of this program will be prepared for transfer to a four-year program of study in dental hygiene or other healthcare program.

Program Objectives

Upon completion of the program, the student will be able to:

  1. Provide a structured educational process, which prepares the graduate for admission into various health care programs.
  2. Utilize scientific knowledge to produce thoughtful and caring abilities in the health care professional role development.
  3. Utilize educational innovations in fostering critical thinking skills through the learning interaction between student and teacher.

Obtaining the Degree

To earn the Diploma students must:

  • Matriculate into the program.
  • Admission to the program is restricted to students who are fully prepared for the level of work required. Entering students will be tested for English, math, and reading deficiencies.
  • Satisfactorily complete the diploma requirements, including General Education and Major Requirements.
