Broadcast News and Video Production

Program Description

The Broadcast News and Video Production certificate is designed for individuals who want hands-on skills in video studio and field camera and production operation, video editing fundamentals, and graphic creation. The certificate connects the student to the fourth largest TV station group in the nation (Sinclair) which operates 185 stations, 115 news departments, in 86 US markets, and the dominant station in the Johnstown MSA (Metropolitan Statistical Area). The 27-credit certificate includes two three-credit apprenticeships with WJAC-TV, one in the first semester and one in the second, plus additional MPR, COM and other courses at Penn Highlands. Like the MPR program, most classes are held in person at the Richland Campus, but some may be available online as part of the college’s standard schedule. The internships are exclusively held at WJAC-TV’s location in Upper Yoder Township, suburban Johnstown. The certificate also feeds seamlessly into the existing A.A.S. Media Production Program.
