Spring
This course introduces students to the foundational principles of health information management and operational procedures within the medical office environment. Emphasis is placed on the creation, organization, maintenance, and protection of health records in both paper and electronic formats. Legal, ethical, and regulatory standards, including those of the American Health Information Association and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, are integrated throughout the course. Students will examine numbering and filing systems, statistical reporting, indexing, and medical office workflow procedures. The course focuses on developing the theoretical knowledge and professional awareness required in health information management and medical office operations.
